Story:

I was born in southern India in a little town, Nalgonda, where summer temperatures often soared above 45ºC (113ºF) and collecting water in steel utensils was a daily morning chore before going to school.  Eight years after leaving Nalgonda, at the end of a journey that took me to Little Flower Junior College – Hyderabad, IIT- Madras, and UMass – Amherst, I found myself in Vermont, USA.  It was there that I caught the Cleantech bug, while leading a double life – as an engineer and an advertising consultant.

Attracted by the idea of reconciling my greed for worldly comforts with my prickly conscience, I pursued an MBA at Cornell University’s Johnson School. There I gained tremendously from my association with Prof. Stu Hart and the Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise. Another powerful influence during the same time was the Cleantech Venture Network.

Having spent the last five years immersed in the world of cleantech, I am amazed at how things have changed. Few years ago seeing an article on green business in the mainstream media used to be a notable event. Now not a day goes by without most notable publications and TV channels, business or scientific,  featuring an article, program or podcast related to the broad cleantech arena.

Cleantech is here to stay for good. The next challenge is to make it accessible and useful for the majority of world’s population. I am convinced there need be no tradeoff between doing well and doing good.  World’s greatest challenges will be addressed at the intersection of technology and business.

    Dear Mr. Dharmaraj,

We have patented a technology for desalination of seawater using thermal power plant flue gas. Please send contact details of CLEANTECH INDIA, since we need capital to execute a pilot plant, before commercialising the technology.

Apart from generating high purity water from seawater, the flue gas gets cleaned, scrubbed and cooled before it can be released into the atmosphere.

    Regards

      Razvan,

Apologies for this really belated response to your posts.

I am very familiar with and admire the Cleantech Group’s pioneering efforts, and was very glad to see it expand to India. I attended three of their Cleantech Venture Forums in 2006 and 2007 in San Francisco and New York, when I volunteered my time in running the events. I know Lauren Bigelow pretty well. Not sure if Keith Raab and Nick Parker will remember me, though I almost accepted a short assignment with them in ’06.

      Keep up the good work!

      Best regards,
      Raghu

Hi Raghu, I am interested in following Clean Tech activities in India. I want to know the state of the technology. Can you put a list of blogs/websites/conferences to follow. Although, I see many people are enthusiastic about it, I am not very convinced whether it is a viable way.

Glad I stumbled upon this nice blog. Coming from India I believe that renewables have the potential to meet the energy needs and my dream is to see each household being able to generate their own power. Ya, seems crazy isn’t it but I think one day we’ll get there. No more transmission lines etc. For now I am looking for partners for starting a biomass plant in Andhra Pradesh, India. I have significant expertise in the renewable sector in the USA and want to apply my learnings/expertise in India.

If you have been seriously thinking about becoming an energy entrepreneur in India, please contact me via email ravimkiran81@yahoo.com and we can talk further. serious inquiries only please.
